Lecture: George Washington and the Mohawk Frontier
The 2019 Lecture Series continues at the Old Stone Fort Museum with a talk with Fort Plain Museum Director Norm Bollen, author of the new book “George Washington and the Mohawk Frontier”.
The lecture will be held on Wednesday, May 22 at 7 p.m. in the Badgley Museum Annex at the Old Stone Fort Museum Complex.
A native of Fort Plain and lifelong resident of the Mohawk Valley, Mr. Bollen has researched and worked on the book for nearly a decade. Through his intensive investigation, he has become a leading authority on the role of the Mohawk Valley during the time of the American Revolution and the steps George Washington took to ensure it stayed in American hands.
During the lecture, Mr. Bollen will share details of the battle of Oriskany in the western Mohawk Valley and the many other conflicts which earned the region the nickname of “Bloody Mohawk”.
Utilizing his investigation of correspondences between the then Commander-in-Chief and key players in the battle for the Mohawk,, he will trace Washington’s steps as he visited Schenectady in 1782 and then toured the Mohawk Valley in 1783.
The book will be available for purchase at the lecture and the author will be available to sign copies!
The cost of the lecture is $5 and free for students and Schoharie County Historical Society members.
Refreshments will be generously provided by Berkshire Farm Center & Services for Youth.
