POSTPONED – Genealogy Workshop: So You Want to Join a Heritage Society?
Are you a descendant of a soldier who fought in the American Revolution, the War of 1812 or the Civil War? Or perhaps someone in your family tree was a Huguenot who fled persecution in France and settled in the United States or maybe they were one of the 102 passengers who arrived on the Mayflower in 1620.
If so, proof of this genetic lineage could earn you membership to organizations such as the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), the Sons of the American Revolution(SAR), the Huguenot Society, the Mayflower Society or another of the more than 50 recognized hereditary and lineage organizations active in the United States today.
On (TBA), the Genealogy Workshop Series at the Old Stone Fort Museum will continue with “Joining a Heritage Society” led by Joan Sondergaard.
During the workshop, Ms. Sondergaard will describe several well-known heritage societies, including the DAR, SAR, Colonial Dames, the Society of the War of 1812 and others. She will explain the benefits of joining such organizations and provide tips and resources on gathering the necessary documents and navigating the application process.
The workshop will be held in the Badgley Museum Annex at the Old Stone Fort Museum Complex. The cost is $5 for adults and free for students and Schoharie County Historical Society members. Refreshments will be generously provided by Bonnie Dailey.
