Genealogy Workshop: Writing Your Family History
Back by popular demand, the Old Stone Fort Genealogical Workshop Series will return on Thursday, February 13 at 7 p.m. with “Writing Your Family History”, presented by Jefferson Historical Society President Kevin Berner.
This workshop has been created to help emerging and seasoned family researchers with their ongoing genealogical projects, providing tips on how to gather and organize information, documents and photographs and compile them into a unique record of your family’s history.
Family history books are valuable tools and natural companions to in-depth genealogical research, translating your investigation into a legacy for your current and future family members, as well as future genealogical researchers.
Drawing from his personal experience researching and compiling his own family history books, Mr. Berner will talk about some of the challenges and successes he found along the way, including tracking down family members with the ubiquitous last name of “Smith”.
Copies of Mr. Berner’s own family history will join others from the collection of the Schoharie County Historical Society Research Library, housed in the Old Stone Fort Museum. Participants are encouraged to investigate these histories and pick out ideas that will work best in their own books.
The workshop will be held in the Badgley Museum Annex at the Old Stone Fort Museum Complex. The cost is $5 for adults and free for students and Schoharie County Historical Society members. Refreshments will be generously provided by Bonnie Dailey.
