CANCELED – We Were There: Schoharie County’s Response to the 9/11 Attacks Documentary Screening
The Schoharie County Historical Society will present a screening of the documentary film “We Were There: Schoharie County’s Response to the 9/11 Attacks” at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 10 at Cobleskill-Richmondville High School. Produced by the historical society in 2019 in advance of the 20th anniversary of the devastating events of September 11, 2001, the film is a powerful and moving account of how many of Schoharie County’s own experienced and took action on that fateful September day and weeks and months that followed.
Woven with poignant one-on-one interviews with several local emergency responders are compelling images from the attacks in New York City and the devastating aftermath which followed. While many of the images may be all too recognizable from newspapers, television screens, and previous accounts of the events, several provide a unique and rarely-seen look at what the first responders encountered when they arrived and met with the massive devastation.
Those interviewed include retired New York State Trooper Chip Johnstone, Mike Hartzel, retired US Army and current Schoharie County Office of Emergency Services Director, John Copland, from the Cobleskill EMS, Brian Head, formally of the New York State Emergency Management Office, and Kevin Neary, long-time Richmondville Mayor and former Chief of Operations of the New York State Emergency Management Office who tragically passed away in early July 2021.
Following the documentary screening will be a panel discussion hosted by Schoharie County Historical Society President Curt Van Steele. Those in attendance are also invited to a brief reception to conclude the evening.
Admission is by donation.
