Mission Statement of the Palatine Project:
The Palatine Project is a methodical, responsible interpretation of the wave of Palatine immigration to Schoharie from the east and west camps, through resources from the Old Stone Fort as well as other pertinent sites. The goal is to tell as complete a story as possible of every day life within this community through the lens of how the land and existing communities impacted the Palatines here, and how they, in turn impacted the land and those communities, and in doing so, to remain responsible stewards of valuable natural, historic, and cultural resources. On site this is mainly to be done through the interpretation of the building currently known as the Hartmann’s Dorf House.
The Palatine Project began to take off in 2023 at the Fort with Paul Supley, a previous Board member and friend of the Society. Without Paul’s enthusiasm and ability to bring people together, the project might never have taken off.
