May 1 is the first day of the regular 2026 season.
Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays: 10am-4pm, Weekends: 10am-5pm
October 31 is the last day of the 2026 season.

Admission:
Admission is $10 for adults (18+). Children, Schoharie County Historical Society Members, Military (active & retired) and members of the North American Reciprocal Museum (NARM) Association get in for free.
Research Library
Appointments are necessary, so please call (518) 295-7192 Monday-Friday before your visit to ensure someone will be available to assist you. You can also email our director at director@theoldstonefort.org to set up an appointment.

*Use of the library is free to Schoharie County Historical Society members AND Schoharie County residents.
Photocopies are 30 cents a page, plus tax (members get a 10% discount).

Driving Directions:

From the Northway, Albany and Capital District
Take the Thruway west to I-88 (Exit 25A) and I-88 west. Exit I-88 at Schoharie-Central Bridge (Exit 23) and proceed south on Route 30A approximately 2.75 miles. A hundred yards or so after crossing Fox Creek, turn sharply left at the sign onto Fort Road.
From Oneonta, Binghamton and I-88 eastbound
Exit I-88 at Schoharie-Central Bridge (Exit 23) and proceed south on Route 30A approximately 2.75 miles. A hundred yards or so after crossing Fox Creek, turn sharply left at the sign onto Fort Road.
From New York, Catskill and South
Exit the Thruway (I-87) at Catskill and proceed west on Route 23 to Route 145. Follow 145 north through the Catskills to Middleburgh. Pass through the Middleburgh business district and turn right at the light onto Route 30 north. Follow it about 6 miles to Schoharie. About a mile past the Schoharie business district the main road bends left, but continue straight ahead onto Fort Road to the museum.
From Columbia County and Berkshires
Cross the Hudson on the Rip Van Winkle Bridge and proceed west on Route 23 as in the directions from New York above.
From the North and U.S. 20.
Take either Route 30 or Route 30A south. From Route 20 and west, take 30A south from Sloansville. From Route 20 and east, take Route 30 south from Esperance. Proceed south on either 30 or 30A and cross over I-88. One mile past I-88, Routes 30 and 30A merge at the Apple Barrel gift shop. Route 30 has the stop sign. Proceed south about 1.5 miles and cross Fox Creek. Then a hundred yards or so farther, turn sharply left at the sign onto Fort Road.
From Central and Western Catskills.
(A) through Grand Gorge. Take Route 30 north to Middleburgh. Route 30 crosses the Schoharie Creek. Turn left immediately after crossing the bridge and continue north to Schoharie on 30. About a mile past the Schoharie business district the road bends left, but continue straight ahead on Fort Road to the fort.
(B) through Stamford. Take Route 10 north from Stamford to Richmondville. There, go east (towards Albany) on I-88. Exit I-88 at Schoharie-Central Bridge (Exit 23) and proceed south on Route 30A approximately 2.75 miles. A hundred yards or so after crossing Fox Creek, turn sharply left at the sign onto Fort Road.
