
This promissory note from February 11, 1817 bears Timothy Murphy’s initials (he could not read or write) as well as the calculation of the $2.50 interest on the loan.
The significance of the hash marks to the right of the initials is unknown.
$13.75 in 1817 is the equivelent of nearly $700 today.
The promissory note is on display in the second floor exhibit at the Old Stone Fort Museum Complex.
