Historian Pete Lindemann will lead a morning tour of the Old Stone Fort Cemetery. It will begin in the fort itself, originally a church, at the first burial – Johannes Schuyler, the first Dutch minister ordained in America and who – according to historian William Roscoe – is buried beneath the pulpit. The tour will continue to the monument for the incorruptible captor of the traitor Major Andre – thrice-buried David Williams. Other notables include Civil War nurse Catherine Lawrence – said to be the first nurse to give anesthesia – and Ed Scribner, who designed and built the sound amplifiers for the world’s first open-air talking pictures held first on Main Street, Schoharie. This is a free event, but donations are always appreciated!
