The Underground Railroad in Schoharie County- Ken Jones
April 5 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Many historians have written off Schoharie County as being a part of the Underground Railroad because of the sympathies of the area to the Confederate States when it came to the slavery issue and the Civil War. It was not surprising to see an agent of the Anti-Slavery Society ready to give up on finding any traction in recruiting followers of the Anti-Slavery cause. He basically said let the dead bury the dead and he wasn’t sticking around for the funeral. However, he found a little leaven in a surprising place. While those involved in the Underground Railroad did not leave a written history, Esperence Town Historian Ken Jones will explore the leads, clues, and people related to possible Underground Railroad activity in the area.
